What stays on your Mac
MeetingEcho was built so that your meetings never need to leave your Mac. This page says exactly what runs where.
Runs on your Mac, always
- Recording your microphone and the other side of a call, or a conversation in the room.
- Transcription with Apple's speech model or Whisper.
- Translation with Apple's translation models.
- Search across every meeting, talk time, marked moments and slide text.
- Study cards, practice, the phrasebook and the Anki export.
- Dictation with Apple's model or Whisper.
- Checking your licence key.
Can leave your Mac, only when you switch it on
| Feature | What is sent | Where to | Default |
|---|---|---|---|
| Meeting notes and corrections | The text of the transcript | The AI provider you set up, with your key | Off |
| Enhance for dictation | The text you dictated | The AI provider you set up | Off (“As spoken”) |
| Richer study cards | Sentences in the language you are learning | The AI provider you set up | Off |
| Topic names for Obsidian | Meeting titles and topics | The AI provider you set up | Off |
| Cloud transcription | The meeting audio | The transcription service you set up | Off |
| Ask Copilot | Your question, the last minutes of the conversation and the meeting's title and attendees | Your organisation's Microsoft 365 | Off |
A model on your own Mac, through LM Studio, can take over the AI tasks, so even these stay on the Mac.
Downloads, which send nothing about you
- Speech models come from Hugging Face when you choose one in Settings.
- Translation languages come from Apple, through macOS, when you download them.
What MeetingEcho never does
- It never asks for an account and never signs you in.
- It has no analytics, no tracking, no advertising code and no crash reporter.
- It never sends your recordings, transcripts or cards to us. AgileWithAI runs no server for MeetingEcho.
- It never keeps the audio of a dictation, and never listens at a password field.
Your files
Everything is kept as ordinary files in a folder you choose, by default Documents/MeetingEcho: the audio, transcripts in Markdown, translations, notes, subtitles, your study cards and the text of your dictations. Back them up, move them or delete them as you like. API keys are kept in your Mac's keychain.
Your licence
Your licence key holds the name and email address you bought it with. It is checked on your Mac against a signature and is never sent anywhere.
Recording other people
Tell everyone in the call or the room that you are recording, and follow your organisation's rules and the law where you are. In Germany, recording a conversation that is not public without consent is an offence.
